Chairman Johns’ Perspective

Despite a drop-off in June, Louisiana Gaming Control Board Chairman Ronnie Jonhs is confident that sports betting will rise again in the following months as the football season is right around the corner.

“We’re a football state,” Johns said, “With not much to bet on in the summer except baseball, fans and bettors in Louisiana are eager for football season to start.”

The gambling world in Louisiana has been excited about the return of football season, and it’s no surprise why. The Football aspect of the state has been on an upswing, with more people interested in coaching and playing.

With two new head coaches coming into their own at Louisiana State University (LSU) and New Orleans Saints DP reported by Johns to prove that there is definitely a buzz for this season.

Louisiana Sports Betting Figures

Louisiana sports betting handle for the month of June dropped to $132 million from May’s $171 million which shows a 22.6% decline.

The $114 million in mobile sports betting accounts for more than 85% of the total. This may be attributed to the convenience and ease of access of mobile applications.

Being available to 55 out of the 64 parishes in the state and having several mobile apps available like FanDuel, DraftKings, Caesars, and BetMGM among others, mobile sports betting has been a major contributor to the industry.

Despite its massive contribution, mobile sports betting still shows a 20.3% decline compared to last month’s $143 million.

However, the 48.1% decline in tax collection would be the most remarkable. Dropping from $2.7 million in May to $1.4 million in June.

For sports fans in Louisiana, the summer months can be a bit of a drought. With baseball as the only real game in town, many are eagerly awaiting the start of football season.

Fortunately, the long wait is finally coming to an end. In just a few short weeks, football will be back in full force. So whether you’re a diehard Saints fan or just someone who likes to take a few shots at the betting window, get ready for some good old-fashioned gridiron action.
